Post 3: Online Social Networks For Gamers

Now gaming has been big part of my live since middle school. It was the place to hang out due to the inability to drive. It was where you could talk to friends who moved out of state. And then we even made friends from outside of the country. But when it came to gaming there where to major sects. Some even saw it as the Bloods and Crips of gaming. Thats right, I'm talking about the Xbox Live community vs the PlayStation Network community. Now when I say these two names I'm not referring to the consoles that where used to play the games, but rather the networking that would allow you play and talk with friends.

When it comes to the games we can play anyone we want for a fee of course. But there are some perks to having this online service. Because it is a paid service they want to keep our business so both of these companies do one of the best things in the eyes of a gamer. They give away games! they give two games away for free every month. And though this sounds great sometimes the games are trash so beware. Both of these these these networks have there own live chat where we can talk in real time to friends while doing some type of activity on the console. And both of these networks have a reward system. For Xbox they are known as achievements, and for the PlayStation they are known as trophies. These are what will be acquired when the gamer does a certain task in a game. And the tasks range from very simple to having to put in hours of work. When it comes to gaming most important or well known leagues are playing on PC. However, there are teams like FaZe or Optic that play Call of Duty on consoles.

Now I know this seems very unhelpful if one was wondering well which should I buy. And honestly the variables are to scattered for me to instruct one to do so. And thats due to the fact that one usually buys a console and joins the network community that the majority of his/her friends are already on.  Now some people don't really care about that, and they are more worried about the games. This is also where it can be tricky. This is due to there being something known as exclusive games. Exclusive games are just as it sounds, games only being able to be played on a specific console. So there are both Xbox exclusive and PlayStation exclusive games. And when it comes to exclusive titles in my own opinion PlayStation cranks out way more titles than Xbox. Xbox's history for exclusive titles, in my opinion, really starts and ends with Halo. Thats really what made the console what it is today. If halo was an all console game I think it would be a fair assessment that Xbox may have not held out for this long, or at least they would be at the magnitude they are now.

And finally for those who are wondering what side I'm on in the Gaming community, I land on the Xbox side every time. I however own a playstation as well so I'm very familiar with there product as well. But my primary console is my Xbox and the Xbox Live community.

  1. Tyree, are you a Twitch or Mixer or YouTube gaming viewer...or all of the above? It's amazing the number of people on Twitch, but Mixer (aka Beam) is winning over the Microsoft community in many ways.

    1. I would say I prefer watching YouTube gamers over Twitch streamers. But sadly the quality of YouTubers is starting to decline. Im not sure if you heard, but there is something called the "ad-pocalypse" going on. This refers to that a lot of youtube sponsors have pulled there contracts so its a lot harder for a lot of people to make money on ad revenue if they aren't squeaky clean and family friendly. This is making people not able to upload as much and the quality of their videos isn't as good because they have to work on other side projects. But overall id say that my favorite gaming personalities are on youtube. I haven't actually looked into Mixer however so i'll have to look into that. If I'm not mistaken I think Mixer is the one that's now a pre built in application on the Xbox One? If so I think that is a great advantage for people to start a career in gaming. However, I don't know if it will have the same effect as Twitch and Youtube, but we will see! Also I have to agree with you it is amazing the numerous people who are starting to come up onto the gaming scene via Twitch.
